Your electric scooter's battery is its most valuable component. With the right habits, an LFP battery (like the ones in VDG Motors EV scooters) can last 6–8 years. Here are the 10 most important tips to maximize your battery's performance and lifespan.

1. Keep Battery Between 20%–80% for Daily Use

For daily commuting, keeping your battery between 20% and 80% State of Charge (SoC) reduces stress on the lithium cells. Full charges to 100% are fine weekly but shouldn't be the daily habit. LFP batteries are more tolerant of full charges than NMC, but 20–80% still extends cycle life.

2. Always Use the Manufacturer-Supplied Charger

Third-party chargers may not match your battery's specific voltage and current profile. Using the VDG-supplied charger ensures the battery management system (BMS) operates correctly and protects against overcharging.

3. Avoid Parking in Direct Sunlight in Summer

Ambient temperature significantly affects battery health. In Indian summers (40–45°C+), parking your scooter in direct sunlight can raise the battery temperature to 55–60°C — accelerating degradation. Park in shade or covered parking whenever possible.

4. Maintain Correct Tyre Pressure

Under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance and reduce range by 5–10%. Check tyre pressure weekly. Correct pressure is typically 30–36 PSI — refer to your owner's manual.

5. Use Eco Mode for City Riding

Eco mode limits the motor to 60–70% power, extending range by 15–20%. For slow city traffic and short commutes, Eco mode is the best setting.

6. Avoid Deep Discharges

Running your battery below 10% regularly can cause the BMS to enter deep protection mode. Try to charge when the battery reaches 20–25%.

7. Charge Overnight — Don't Rush

Slow charging (5–6 hours) is gentler on the battery than fast charging. VDG scooters use a standard 5A charger that takes 5–6 hours — perfect for overnight charging.
